There is a part of you that has not aged. Not the part that got tired, or cautious, or resigned over years of adult responsibility — but the original creative self, the one that approached the world with curiosity and play and the genuine desire to make things. That part is still in there. And one of the most important spiritual practices you can maintain is keeping that part alive.

Refresh a Hobby

Today’s practice is simple but meaningful: think of a creative endeavor you have set aside. Something that used to light you up, that felt personal and expressive and entirely yours, that got quietly shelved as life got louder and more demanding. A hobby. A craft. A form of expression. A skill you were building and then stopped. Whatever it is — find it today and take one physical action toward it.

Not a plan to return to it next month. Not a conversation about how you used to love it. An action today. Buy the materials. Open the notebook. Pick up the instrument. Sketch the first line. One concrete step that says: this part of me still counts.

If You Stop Creating, What Is There to Live For?

It is always important to maintain your creative levels. When you stop creating — when you stop making things, expressing things, building things — something essential begins to dull. The creative outlets are not a luxury added on top of real life. They are part of what keeps the real life vital. They keep the child in you alive. And the child in you is the part that still believes things can be different, that something new is possible, that the world is larger than the evidence suggests.

Pick something that means something specifically to you — not something you should be doing, not something productive or career-adjacent, but something personal. A passion that is yours. Express it today in whatever small way is available. That is enough. That one step reactivates the frequency of creativity in your life, and from that frequency, desire for change becomes possible in ways that no amount of willpower can manufacture.

Key Takeaways

  • The creative, curious, playful part of you is still alive — it needs regular attention to stay that way.
  • Identify one creative endeavor you have set aside and take one physical action toward it today — not next month, today.
  • Creative outlets are not a luxury — they are what keeps the essential aliveness in your life from dulling over time.
  • Choose something personal and expressive, not something productive or obligatory — a passion that belongs specifically to you.
  • One step today reactivates the frequency of creativity, from which the desire for deeper change naturally grows.
