One of the most transformative ideas in the spiritual life is deceptively simple: God’s will and your will are not in opposition. When you are living in genuine alignment with your Creator, your deepest desires are expressions of God’s desire for you. That is what humility looks like at its most expansive.
Your Desires Come from God
Everything you want — a job, a relationship, a dream you have carried for years, an aspiration you are almost afraid to admit — those desires came from somewhere. They were placed in you. They are part of what makes you uniquely you. And because God gave you those desires, they are also God’s desires for you.
So when you want something, do not approach it as if you are asking a distant authority for permission. Approach it as a conversation between you and the One who already knows your heart and has already planted this longing inside you. You are not asking from the outside — you are affirming from within the oneness you already share.
What Oneness with God Actually Means
Practicing oneness this week means consciously affirming: “I’m one with God in this moment by desire.” Not because it sounds spiritual, but because it is spiritually accurate. Your desire for healing, for growth, for love, for meaningful work — these are God’s desire for you. When you ask for them, you are not begging. You are affirming.
And when something does not come to pass — when the loan is denied, the opportunity falls through, the timing does not work — do not take it as rejection. Trust that in God’s will, that thing would not have served your life the way you imagined. God’s no is always in the direction of something better, even when it does not feel that way.
The Practice This Week
This is the application: all week, see everything as being from God. There is no separation between God’s will and your will. When you feel disconnected — when you feel apart from God — that is a signal that your conscious contact needs to be improved. The way back is to affirm oneness, not to try harder in isolation.
Build each day by recognizing: right now, in this moment, I am one with God by desire. Everything I am seeking, I seek in partnership with my Creator. That shift in perspective — from petition to partnership — changes everything about how you move through your life.
- Your deepest desires were placed in you by God — they are not in conflict with His will, they are an expression of it.
- Asking God for something is not begging — it is affirming oneness with the One who already planted that longing.
- When something does not happen, trust that God’s no is always moving you toward something better.
- Feeling apart from God is a signal — the answer is not more effort, but a return to conscious contact.
- Practice this: “I am one with God by desire in this moment.” Repeat it until it becomes the lens you see through.
